Berkeley Innovation X Announces Collaboration with Colt Technology Services
The University of California, Berkeley Innovation X-Labs at the Sutardja Center for Entrepreneurship & Technology are excited to announce a new collaboration with Colt Technology Services, a multinational telecommunications company headquartered in London, United Kingdom. The collaboration, in partnership with GSM Association, an industry organization that represents the interests of mobile network operators worldwide, will allow UC Berkeley students the opportunity to work on cutting-edge AI telecommunications projects and allow Colt access to the bright minds at Berkeley and its leading innovation ecosystem.
The Colt collaboration will focus on the use of AI for network automation and network optimization. For example, with the upcoming evolution of telecom networks, new design questions have emerged about the automated placement of edge servers.
Ikhlaq Sidhu, Chief Scientist and Director of Berkeley’s Sutardja Center said, “Colt-X projects provide opportunities for students interested in machine learning, AI to telecom, networking, and 5G routing.”
“Colt has always been at the forefront of innovation: we have strong track record of leadership in innovation across many technologies including NFV, SDN, blockchain as well as Artificial Intelligence. Our focus on AI includes use cases and initiatives in becoming a more data driven organisation, including the introduction of cognitive capabilities across all business functions and delivering a self-organised network through AIoP”, said Francesca Serravalle, Emerging Technology Director at Colt. “We believe that the academy has an important role in the innovation ecosystem and we look forward to co-innovating with Berkley university in delivering an adaptive network in the time of digital services and diversified SLA.”
