2/17: Innovation X Roundtable – Future of Work: Digital Transformation, Emerging Technologies, and Automation

Digital transformation – the process of using digital technologies to create new or modify existing business processes, culture, and customer experiences to meet changing business and market requirements – is expected to have an increasingly significant impact on the total experience of organizations, from the C-suite to the customer. In 2020, worldwide spending on digital transformation reached $1.3 trillion, with firms investing more into innovative technologies such as artificial intelligence and blockchain. Adoption of AI technologies by large firms is expected to triple from 25% in 2020 to 75% in 2024. Similarly, adoption of digital ledger technologies such as blockchain is expected to grow from 17% in 2020 to nearly two-thirds adoption by 2024. These new technologies will enable intelligent automation to help firms  perform better in nearly every corner of the workplace, including areas such as spend management, digital risk, compliance, security, employee scheduling, product experience and quality, and the ability to adapt in ultra-competitive markets. 

While some industries such as manufacturing, retail, and healthcare are leading this digital transformation, all industries will have to address their digital transformation strategy at some point, and it could be a matter of survival for many. So, how are firms keeping up with the rapid pace of technological change, the challenge to constantly innovate, and the struggle to find IT talent to modernize their technological infrastructure? As firms embrace new technologies and automation, they also have to encourage a new era of learning and skill development for their workers. How can companies ensure workers can adapt as quickly as technology and have the skills to support the new technology-focused infrastructure at work?
