UC Berkeley Innovation X Announces Collaboration with lululemon athletica inc
Virtual Internship and Applied Research Opportunities for Students
The University of California, Berkeley Innovation X-Labs at the Sutardja Center for Entrepreneurship & Technology are excited to announce a new collaboration with lululemon athletica inc, a multinational retail and apparel company headquartered in Vancouver, Canada. The collaboration will allow UC Berkeley students the opportunity to help reimagine the future retail experience and allow lululemon access to the bright minds at Berkeley and its leading innovation ecosystem.
The lululemon collaboration will focus on the future of the retail experience and supporting retail technologies. These technologies include how Data, AI and 5G can create a new and innovative guest experience. At a higher level, these projects are designed to understand what customer experience is possible in three years.
Ikhlaq Sidhu, Chief Scientist and Director, Berkeley Sutardja Center for Entrepreneurship and Technology said, “These applied research projects are intended to mix the perspectives of students, faculty, and the retail industry to develop concepts that neither would develop alone.”
Starting points for projects include:
- Ability to navigate more products that can fit within any given store
- Advancements in virtual try-on experiences
- How to communicate on-line what a product feels like.
Additional areas of interest include environmental sustainability concepts for retail.
Ideal lululemon sponsored project teams will include students with diverse backgrounds in skill areas including the following:
- Design / UI experience
- Ability to code and develop software prototypes with client and server frameworks and current languages
- Data science and data analytics
- Marketing, consumer experience, psychology, and other people centric areas of study
- A sports lifestyle passion is a plus to identify with the lululemon culture and community
These projects may take the form of virtual internship or independent study project over summer. These projects are for undergraduate and masters students. Postdocs and Ph.D. students may also participate if it is relevant to their study objectives.
